I went into Buon Italia last winter to get some rice, and the whole back of the store reeked of truffles. I floated back on the aroma to discover a couple of people unpacking what was essentially a s

The pierogies are nuxbait, right?

I'm looking forward to my first sampling of this year's harvest at our premier local Italian restaurant in a few days.

What a treat!

Don't forget to tell them to cook your truffles.

Oddly enough, back when Masa was in LA at Ginza Sushi-Ko, one evening's menu when I dined there had a course of whole fried white truffle (guessing about 1/3-1/2 oz.). It was interesting--but a total waste of a white truffle as far as I was concerned. I would much rather have had it raw and shaved over the seared Kobe beef that came a couple of plates later.

of course, there is the $99 lunch at Babbo (add $100 for some of these wines paired as well)

Yeah, I think the price is super steep for what that is (I'd rather fly to Piedmont), but it is a nicely legit $150 Piedmont meal.

some serious wines too

Serious, but way too young.

For $1000, I really would expect some properly aged Barolos.
