NY Journal visits Zengo, and isn't very impressed. Frankly, the Latin–Asian theme is so miguided that you'd think Jeffrey Chodorow dreamt it up. Except he didn't. But before there was Zengo, there were four failed Chodorow places here, and Chod's curse hovers over the room.

The food isn't all bad, but you get the weary sense that any restaurant spanning the cuisines of multiple continents will have a poor ratio of hits to misses. Which it does. Akhtar Nawab said all the politically correct things about his departure, but take one look at the dumb menu, and you immediately see why Nawab would get out of dodge. This cannot end well, and it is best for him not to be associated with it.

The restaurant was not full on a Saturday evening, and I doubt it will ever be. The space is so huge that only a mega hit like Tao could fill it. I am not saying there is anything great about Tao, but it was certainly a hit—for whatever reason. This probably won't be.
