StephanieL Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Restaurants catering to Orthodox Jewish communities will have communal sinks in the dining room for the ritual handwashing before meals. I think Muslims have the same requirement. Quote
MitchW Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Eater - still wrong, most of the time... Quote The star of Beto’s menu is the carnitas ($5), slow-cooked pork in house-made flour tortillas made with masa Aren't corn tortillas made with masa, and flour tortillas made with, ummmmmm, flour? Quote
Wilfrid Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Not much editing going on there. Quote The former pop-up from Tahiz Gonzalez and Connor Kaminski has found a permanent home on the Lower East Side after its pop-up... Quote The logo features the booty of a pig in a purple outline — in honor of the 7 train, since they lived in Queens for a bit. Help. Quote
Wilfrid Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Is Nadia really understanding what he's being told? Quote "[Co-owner of new cocktail bar Crybaby] says he’s a longtime Chartreuse collector and amassed rare bottles from France and the states. He also had the global director and head distiller for Chartreuse from France at the bar. “They were deeply excited about what we’re doing and wanted to make sure we’re stocked and have consistent stock,” he says." There's no such thing as a bottle of Chartreuse "from the states," rare or otherwise. The guy might have meant he was finding rare bottles in the states, maybe at auctions? Anyway, good to know the Chartreuse people want to make sure US bars have plenty of the stuff. Quote
MitchW Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Today's "intel." Quote A new peppy two-floor Italian restaurant is coming to Williamsburg: Balera is opening at 442 Graham Avenue, near Frost Street, on Thursday, March 26. The menu draws from the Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna regions, with dishes like thin-crust Roman-style pizza, pastas, and a salad chock-full of octopus, shrimp, and potatoes. Per the name, which is Italian for “dance halls,” it’ll have live music and/or DJs on Friday and Saturday evenings. If the menu draws from Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna, why is thin-crust Roman-style pizza the first thing listed? And maybe I'm not aware, but are octopus and shrimp usually associated with Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont? Quote
Wilfrid Posted March 19 Posted March 19 On a similar note: Quote The food (and the wine) will draw on Iberian and Portuguese influences... That's like "British and Welsh influences." Quote
Orik Posted March 19 Posted March 19 You were heard - the PR food is Iberian and Brazilian! Quote Boedga Night’s food will follow suit, with Iberian and Brazilian dishes in the works like salt cod fritters and house-made sausages. Then there are larger steaks and whole fish paired with broccoli rice, grilled vegetables, and Portuguese-style potatoes. Quote
Wilfrid Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Ah, that's the longer version. The original infelicity survives in the new openings blurbs. Quote
MitchW Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Quote Dine on duck confit, côte de boeuf, and a $175 dover dole for two, while surrounded by artwork by the likes of Joan Mitchell and Andy Warhol. Evidently, they can't even be bothered with an AI spell check. Best New Restaurants 1 Quote
small h Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Pretty much the only time I remember Eater exists is when you mention it. Quote

Wilfrid Posted May 7 Posted May 7 There's almost nothing to actually read. They update their lists and post a couple of news items. All the reviewers are gone, of course. 1 Quote
