Wilfrid
A strong recommendation for Maier’s extensive show at Fotografiska. I understand a lot of these works were stowed in a forgotten archive; rediscovered they make a case for stature. Most striking, the photos of ordinary life, in NYC, Chicago and elsewhere. Then there are the remarkable self-portraits. Then the move into, anyway… I don’t have as much to say about photography as I might about painting and sculpture, but what I see here are photos that would be fascinating just because of what they depict, but which also seem to me to be formally beautiful.
