Is Fact Checking Dead?

You say that you researched a thing thoroughly and wrote a whole ass book about it, but part of your thesis is based on something that someone never actually said but you kept repeating in every interview and then your correction and retribution was also false. Are errata slips really preferable to proper editing and factchecking?

In our new world it's facts that are dead -- so why check them?

Rightly or wrongly, despite what Bloomsbury says, non-fiction publishers rarely fact check books. They leave that to the authors. To the extent fact-checking still exists, it's largely confined to the world of news and magazines.
