Sneakeater
The last time I looked, Google Maps didn't give walking directions.
changeup
Aldea's food is obviously great, and I don't think too adventurous - duck rice is pretty much present all over Chinatown (this is just much better). But you risk being sat somewhere where the decor kind of sucks (say upstairs in the back), and you're left with not much more than what's on the proverbial plate to look at, or perhaps excite. I would go for the Chef's counter at Aldea, or somewhere else personally.
Sneakeater
They know me well enough at Aldea to have a way of being sure I'm at the chef's counter.
Sneakeater
Although that does have a funny way of making the entire kitchen part of your date, if you know what I mean. I've found it awkward.
foodie52
Why don't you just open oysters at your place?
Sneakeater
Because it's been so long since it's been done that I don't know what would happen if anybody ate any food in my apartment.
changeup
They know me well enough at Aldea to have a way of being sure I'm at the chef's counter. In my book that's a lock then.
Sneakeater
As I said, the last time I took a date there, I wished we were at a regular table.
changeup
My advice comes from a similar situation on a double date - my wife's friend (she was at the MF Bite Club dinner) was meeting a date, and we picked Aldea. We were taken upstairs, and it was dead, would have been bad. So we requested the tables facing the kitchen, but not on the counter. Had much more energy downstairs, was a very fun dinner, and food wasn't too challenging - everyone ordered a different dish in fact.
oakapple
Where's the message board that explains how you get all of those young things to go out with you?
Wilfrid
I think it's this one. As for the question, it's a no-brainer. I agree with the suggestion that La Lunchonette may seem strange to a member of today's youth - and the brains are always on the menu, although if she doesn't speak French she may never know. Also, location aside, La Lunchonette is a bit drab and gloomy isn't it?
prasantrin
No no. Too much running around on a worknight. That would cut seriously into the post-prandial Display Of Gratitude time -- which, let's face it, is the whole point of this exercise. That almost made me throw up a little in my mouth.
