sweatshorts
(Had a miscommunication/change of plans and ended up in Red Hook with a toddler instead of Clinton Hill on a date. Went to Pizza Moto and thought it was quite enjoyable.)
Wilfrid
Any ideas for weekend lunch/brunch in the Penn Station/Herald Square neighborhood? Main qualification, a place where people can sit and talk and hear each other and not be hurried. ETA: Having looked at some options, not a menu that is 80% burgers and sandwiches. I misread it as Clifton Hill, googled it, and wondered what they were doing at Niagara Falls.

I had a drink here recently while waiting for our karaoke room tee off time a few months ago and it might be an option. We did not dine: https://trademarktaste.com/#menu-venue I was also going to suggest Keen's but they don't do lunch on weekends
Wilfrid
Trademark looks good, thanks.
Chambolle
I have been informed that I shall be dining at The Wesley in the WV ... it seems to be geo-desirable for certain among us ... how happy or unhappy should I be about this ? Has anyone actually gone there ? And what are the best nearby (ie up to a 15 minute walk, let's say) dinner options for a good meal, assuming that's possible, which may not be the case ... and please note that I am NOT looking for some prim and proper (ie boring) gastro meal just for the sake of being gastro ... I guess I'm trying to say that I have ZERO interest in Les Trois Chevaux. I am perfectly happy with a cool but very good bistro like Magma* in Paris * And yes, Joe, I just tossed you a bone
joethefoodie
If you don't find a good option, you could find yourself grabbing tacos at Los Tacos #1 in Chelsea Market, or its sister restaurant Los Mariscos #1, where we have grabbed seats at the bar when lucky...they make a damn good Margarita, and the tortillas are all made à la minute. Now I'm hitting my kitchen to make that sometimes classic bistro dish, boeuf bourguignon.
Sneakeater
Jeju Noodle Bar?

There's ZERO chance that my dining experience with these friends would be eating tacos ... but thanks anyway cuz I was also going to ask (and I will ask, see below) about good, casual, "not-a-big-production" downtown lunch options (and don't forget about Sundays ! ) and Los T and Los M are duly noted Do they qualify as "very good" (or better) tacos ? or should they more appropriately be filed under the "if pretty desparate" category ? And are the other downtown locations equally recommended because I wouldn't be shocked to find myself circling Chambers Street Wines or strolling on Lafayette 3 hours ago, Sneakeater said: Jeju Noodle Bar? Is this place pretty new ? and how good is it ? It won't be for the above dinner but it could come in handy on another night cuz it's very close to a friend's place and I have never heard him mention it And is Okiboru any good ? I see that it was just reviewed ... but, quite frankly, I was too lazy to read it More generally, what are some very good, downtown lunch options (anywhere, west side east side no worries) ... for something not too elaborate* ... the range from low to high of what I'm looking for might from Parm (back way back when Parm was good ... and if you never ever thought it was good then imagine a Parm that was good, but at that level of good) to maybe Il Buco. Any cuisine is fine even if these two exampes happen to be eye-talian * ie no fine dining ... casual but good ... in and out in 45 to 1hr MAX ... by the way, that reminds me that I was back at Atla some number of months ago and it was pretty effing lame ... completely different product being used in the formerly excellent shrimp tacos, no care when making other tacos, blah blah blah ... that place has been perm eliminated from any and all of my lists 5 hours ago, Chambolle said: dining at The Wesley i Any thoughts ? At Los Tacos #1 Chelsea Market, you order, wait as they're made, pick up and find yourself a seat. At Mariscos, if you can grab a seat at the bar, you'll get served. And there are tables inside at Mariscos as well. However, it looks as if there may be locations of Los Tacos #1 closer to where you think you'll be strolling around...https://www.lostacos1.com/locations/ Los Mariscos is only at Chelsea Market...https://www.losmariscos1.com/# Not a great pic... joethefoodie
That review of Okiburo sure makes it sound good, but waiting on line to have noodles? Nah. I don't really know why he thinks there has been no other tsukemen place - because Nakamura has had it for quite some time...https://www.nakamuranyc.com/ Quote We’ll get to that in a minute, but Okiboru is a house of tsukemen, almost certainly the city’s first, and tsukemen (pronounced tskeh-men) is the reason for the lines outside on Orchard Street, so let’s start there. Sneakeater
Didn't Nakamura used to have a whole separate place devoted to tsukemen?
