Wilfrid Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Okay, it seems The Damned did. Maybe once. Hardly a band I associate with the club. Iggy, no. Quote
Wilfrid Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Wow, Tish and Snooky are doing great with a fashion brand and multiple podcasts. Add them to the show. I guess Annie Golden could put a version of The Shirts together. Quote
Wilfrid Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Having gone down the rabbit hole -- nothing to do with CBGB but I last saw Iggy 29 years ago. Quote
small h Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 (edited) I last saw him at a taping of Sessions on W. 54th, which I don't think was 29 years ago (ETA it was April of 2000), but it was quite a while. I first saw him at the Stone Pony. That was definitely 30+ years ago. Edited September 26, 2025 by small h Quote
MitchW Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 I'm surprised Richard Hell and Richard Lloyd aren't on the bill. Both still around and live here. Quote
Wilfrid Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 I did check to see if Lloyd was still kicking. I stood behind Richard Hell in a post office line once. Also shared an M14D with Tom Verlaine, sadly gone. Quote
Wilfrid Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Right, good pick. I guess she'd be expensive. Quote

Featuring noone I would associate with the club. Even Marky Ramone surely replaced Tommy after The Ramones outgrew the club. Nice line-up but just seems a little weird. Mind you, who is still out there? The Dictators maybe? https://www.cbgb.com Marky says he played the club twice as a Ramone, three times with Richard Hell and twice with Wayne County. Quote
Wilfrid Posted September 27, 2025 Posted September 27, 2025 There ya go. Oh Jayne is still with us. Saw them a couple of times, last at some open air event in Manhattan, way back. On a bill with Church of Betty. Dredging up the memories. Quote
bloviatrix Posted September 29, 2025 Posted September 29, 2025 I remember in 1993 when CBGBs hosted their 20th anniversary shows. 1 Quote
Wilfrid Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 I was there for, I think, the last night before it closed (may have been several days of closing shows, I can't remember, but I was at one of them). ETA: I see Patti Smith closed the club. I wasn't there for that. I remember parts of the Dictators and Tish and Snooky. Quote

I sure was...they played for what seemed like forever. This past Monday, I was able to get into an interview/show with Steve Earle, at Lucinda's (my favorite new club for music, and perhaps the first of what may be a number of Lucinda's in various cities). For his Outlaw Country show on Sirius, Steve was interviewing Amanda Shires, who sang four songs for the small audience (3 aired, one more when the show was over). Quote

small h Posted October 27, 2025 Posted October 27, 2025 Agree that the sound is better, but there's a terrible bottleneck between the front part with the bar and the back part with the stage. Quote
backyardchef Posted October 27, 2025 Posted October 27, 2025 My old label did most of our shows and parties at Brownies, and sometimes Under Acme, Mercury Lounge and Westbeth Music Center. At least Mercury Lounge is still there. Always a challenge where the bar was located and I woke up in the basement/green room too many times. For punk and garage, it had a wonderfully feral sonic quality. For folk and country, I am sure Lucinda's is better. Quote

I believe I saw Big Star with Alex Chilton at Under Acme. And I'm pretty sure I saw Ray Davies doing some solo thing at Westbeth. Yesterday was at Hamilton House Park Concerts, a friend's house concert venue in, yes, Hamilton Park, on Staten Island. Warren Zanes was reading and telling stories (he's a great storyteller) from his newest book, Deliver Me From Nowhere. Playing songs from the album were Teddy Thompson, Kate Fenner, and Dave Mansfield. Dave Mansfield played on both Rolling Thunder tours, or both segments of the Rolling Thunder Revue, however you want to look at it. Quote
Steve R. Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 Mitch - the Ray Davies thing at Westbeth was an early Unplugged. Great couple of hours. 1 Quote

StephanieL Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Tito Puente Jr. and Néstor Torres at SF Jazz last Thursday, with guests Juan Escovedo (Sheila E.'s brother) and San Francisco legend Roger Glenn. What an amazing show! People were literally salsa dancing in the aisles and near the stage. Of course, they encore'd with Oye Como Va. I really need to go to more Latin jazz concerts. 1 Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 As a change from Hinds, I just bought a ticket for Piri & Tommy at Baby's All Right in March. First US tour. Quote
bloviatrix Posted November 17, 2025 Posted November 17, 2025 Finally got to see The Wombats at the Brooklyn Paramount last week. I've been wanted to see them for awhile. Lots of fun, although it was a very frat bro crowd. The advantage of having a spouse who has knee issues is were are able to get seats in the section for people with disabilities which meant we were feet from the stage. Quote
