MitchW Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I saw a great show last night. Lenny Kaye opened for Dave Alvin (The Blasters) and Jimmie Dale Gilmore (The Flatlanders). Dave Alvin is a phenomenal guitar player, Jimmie Dale still has a great voice. And Lenny is Lenny - coming out with his first solo album this year. Quote
Wilfrid Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Great to see Lenny still out there. Talking about still out there, The Flamin' Groovies have a Shake Some Action 50th anniversary tour coming up. An old friend suggests we go to see them (somewhere: it's an international tour). I checked on Cyril Jordan and he is indeed still leading the band, aged 77. Everyone else is long gone. I have significant memories of the band, but I am not at all sure about this. 1 Quote

I saw that - they're unfortunately playing at one of my least favorite venues here - Brooklyn Steel. But also in Huntington, which is a nicer venue, so maybe... Quote
bloviatrix Posted May 11 Posted May 11 We saw Bruce last week at UBS. Granted he doesn't move around the stage like he used to, but it was a great show. I think the version of The Ghost of Tom Joad that he did with Tom Morello was absolutely incredible. This is the first show I've been to at UBS (I've been to a lot of hockey games) and the sound system is excellent. Reminded me of the days of seeing the Dead. 1 Quote

Last night's show was excellent; at one point, they and their band (a really tight quartet) played about 35 minutes without a break. Quote

MitchW Posted June 26 Posted June 26 (edited) This past Monday, at City Winery, the Grammy Museum presented a conversation between: Lenny Kaye and Michael Imperioli. As some may know, Lenny has written a number of books: Lightning Striking, an autobiography of Waylon Jennings (Waylon gave up his seat on the ill-fated plane crash that took Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper), and a third called You Call it Madness: The Sensuous Song of the Croon. He's releasing his first solo album in forever, called Goin' Local, on July 17th. Sang a few songs from it. A fun evening. Lots of downtown musicians present - from Patti Smith, to Willie Nile, Tony Shanahan, et al. Edited June 27 by MitchW Quote
