This might be worth further analysis.   Something which occurred to me last night was that The Beatles, for all the hysterical female following of their early days, are musical Action Men. Their so

"Back in the USSR" in which Russia is a metaphor for womankind.

Not sure why, but I just got a kick out of you choosing to not use one screen name but use the other.

Echo and the Bunnymen sound like the Beatles.

Awful band.

this raises an interesting point. a common putdown of bands influenced by the Beatles was "they're just copying [trying to sound like] the Beatles." heard that a few times.

As far as I'm concerned, if you have jangly guitars, that's a direct Beatles influence.

Do you really mean to imply that there influence was primarily on the style of pop music?

I might come to agree with you. It's just that it doesn't seem like a very significant influence. Kind of like saying that every painter that uses oils is influenced by van Eyck.

or possibly Byrds.

There's no difference between a Byrds influence and a Beatles influence.

But that's totally different. That guy is completely forgotten. The Beatles are still talked about a lot (as you can from this and the other thread). It's just that some people want to deny their importance for reasons that appear to me to be primarily social.
