irnscrabblechf52
fine dining options I would recommend include Niche, Farmhaus (JB winner this year), Sidney Street Cafe. i would recommend with some reservation tony's and monarch barbecue--Pappy's or Bogart's are the most popular places in town right now. i don't think they're that great, but obviously, tons of people disagree with me there're a lot of fun americana-ish places to explore: Carl's Drive-In, Blueberry Hill, Goody Goody Diner, Crown Candy Kitchen, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard Italian--if you like red sauce Italian, the Hill (neighborhood is a good choice)--Amighetti's for enormous sandwiches, Rigazzi's is dece, Cunetto is alright. Missouri Baking Company is a must visit, absolutely awesome pastries, maybe the best Italian cookies I've ever had Mexican: Durango is pretty good Iron Barley is a food networky darling, haven't been there myself eta: if you have any more spec questions i can probably answer them
prasantrin
Loved Ted Drewes and Niche. Thought Carl's Drive-In was fine, though I probably wouldn't go back (IBC Root Beer on tap was quite nice, though). I remember having some good soft pretzels from somewhere, but can't remember where off-hand. Any locals who can help? It was Gus' Pretzels. We also went to Rooster for breakfast. It was OK. And I really liked the lemon danish from McArthur's (although it was very sweet), but it's quite a bit out of the way.

Now I'm a little worried. . . . I sent him a PM a few weeks ago; he hasn't checked in since September 4. I'm very worried. Does anyone else know how to get hold of him? Bloviatrix, maybe? Rail Paul? Sneakeater
I guess we don't have to worry about whether you're coming back.
9lives
Dating myself, but I spent a lot of evenings at Blueberry Hill; which had just opened. O'Connell's Pub used to make a great RB sandwich or burger..on Shaw. and St Louis has a unique type of thin pizza that I grew to enjoy. Talayna's and Imo's were the big name but a local could give you current recs. Toasted ravioli was also a local specialty. s fine dining options I would recommend include Niche, Farmhaus (JB winner this year), Sidney Street Cafe. i would recommend with some reservation tony's and monarch barbecue--Pappy's or Bogart's are the most popular places in town right now. i don't think they're that great, but obviously, tons of people disagree with me there're a lot of fun americana-ish places to explore: Carl's Drive-In, Blueberry Hill, Goody Goody Diner, Crown Candy Kitchen, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard Italian--if you like red sauce Italian, the Hill (neighborhood is a good choice)--Amighetti's for enormous sandwiches, Rigazzi's is dece, Cunetto is alright. grenache
Agree that Niche, Farmhaus (not a JBF winner, but one of the F&W best new chefs), and Sidney Street Cafe are the top for fine dining. I would also put Monarch in that category though when the chef is in the kitchen and can do a tasting menu. Other options worth looking into are Five Bistro, The Crossing and Harvest. Do not waste any time trying "St Louis Style" pizza as few outside of native St. Louisans find it edible. Pi Pizza (deep dish) and The Good Pie (neopolitan) are both good though. For breakfast, check out Half & Half. For wine, 33 Wine bar. Cocktails, Taste (formerly Taste by Niche). I really like Bogart's for BBQ.
Stone
Well, the family gave thumbs up to all the recommendations, but, alas we didn't have time to venture onto the city. Not even a steak burger to be had, although I did get some Lion's Choice.
