He has made a big contribution to precisely that trend.

It's like the real past, only better. Like dishes in Jane Grigson you'd heard of, but had never in fact seen anyone make. Costume drama. And that's not pejorative either. (Actual British traditional cooking would not have been as influential.)

A few questions -   Any good thoughts on coffee/cafe type places for casual meetings in The City and the Hedge Fund land around Hyde Park . If you were a hipstery-ish foodie finance guy where would

Good to hear its going well. I haven't tried Rodenbach, will do so. If you get to Craft make sure to try a few of the Mikkeler beers, very serious. Sorry I am not around for a pint. I'm in sunny W

La Fromagerie is still definitely the place for cheese generally although Neals Yard (in Covent Garden or Borough Market) has an even better selection of UK and Irish cheese.   Tapas: Jose on Bermo

Heston Blumenthal's Dinner comes to mind. I'm sure those recipes when cooked back in the day tasted very much not the same compared to what he serves today as representative of those original recipes.

very good lunch yesterday at trishna (the lunch tasting menu at £35 presents an alarming amount of food).

bizarro ramen in the soho area with a whisky biz friend who i met at milroy's; we then walked over to brewdog and from there to some place called bone daddies for ramen. i got the harissa ramen. whatever.

excellent lunch today at the clove club. £65 5 course lunch menu (which is really about 8 courses with all the various extra bits that show up). apart from the fact that some of the very earnest young men who brought dishes over were barely audible as they described them, i have no complaints (despite being seated at the bar). the meal peaked with a 21 day aged duck that was just divine. among the best meals i've had this year.

noble rot tomorrow and hedone and st. john on friday and then i'm done with expensive food on this trip. by the way, i hadn't realized how far away hedone is from where i am.

luckily, it's a straight shot on the district line from the tower hill station (about 50 feet from my hotel) to the chiswick park station.

here now is the duck from the clove club. no, you don't get it all, but they parade this duck to every table seemingly--or maybe it is the case that you're only shown the duck your piece of breast is going to be sliced from.

You're almost certainly already aware of this but make sure you take the right District Line train for Chiswick Park or switch at Earl's Court.
