I flew to Austin last week to meet my boyfriend (let's just call him "B" for now) and his parents. We spent a couple of days there, then went on to San Francisco (which is where I'm posting from right now).

I was desparate to eat some BBQ, even if it was at the airport. From what folks tell me on Facebook, this was a poor representative of Texas 'cue.

Pix from the Salt Lick BBQ vendor at A-B Intnat'l Airport:

Beef brisket.

Note the weird potato salad at top right -- not enough vinegar and totally bland to my palate.

We thought that the brisket had been simmered for a bit, then smoked. Not a good first impression.

Pulled pork sandwich.

Better than the brisket (with some burnt ends), so not a total wash at least. Coleslaw had no sharpness, and the pickle was kinda weaksauce.
