Sneakeater
Yeah they went to Cahors for God's sake.
Wilfrid
I'm sure we could have a thread on how to pronounce Eulalie.
small h
Like ukulele, only missing a syllable?
Wilfrid
Mm, but that "a" might be short "a" or even pronounced "u" as in "lull." And where, oh where, does the stress fall?
Sneakeater
Oo-la-lee Major stress on last syllable. Minor stress on first syllable. (It's a French name, so it gets pronounced like one.) (Not that anyone in New York will pronounce it correctly any more than they did "Otto".)

Diancecht
well, i was looking for news about the restaurant
Sneakeater
It's a wine from Cahors.
Sneakeater
Actually in retrospect most people seemed to be able to bend their minds and tongues around the fact that “Montrachet” was pronounced without the “t”.

St. Eulalie. My bet would be they went to see The Music Man last year and just thought it would be a cool-sounding name for a restaurant.
Sneakeater
That couple is pretty wine-obsessed, though.

Sure, but I think they’d have continued the tradition of using a Bourgogne AOC if they were going that route. Not just pulled a name from a random obscure house that (from all appearances) just cranks out $15 gallery wine and isn’t notable for anything. But who knows? Maybe they visited on a wine tour and loved the name. Or they’re just really into Saint Eulalia, though her story seems a bit gruesome to model a restaurant after. Sneakeater
If you want to name a restaurant after a saint, it's got to be St. Agatha.
