Sneakeater
So I'm reading on Eater that the Cornelia Street Cafe was on West Broadway in Soho, and my head is exploding.
small h
Wait'll you find out where the Second Avenue Deli is.
Sneakeater
Yeah, but the Second Avenue Deli really now IS/(are) somewhere other than on Second Avenue. The Cornelia Street Cafe was always on fucking Cornelia Street. (The address they give housed the Broadway Cafe, which is like not the same thing.)
small h
Also? You can google Cornelia Street Cafe, and the address appears! Uncanny, this modern world. When do you think Eater will tell its staff?
Sneakeater
No wait, I'm wrong. It didn't used to be the Broadway Cafe. I can't remember what it used to be.
Sneakeater
Apparently something called Korchma Taras Bulba.
Sneakeater
Which is also not the Cornelia Street Cafe.
Sneakeater
Small h is right: Google -- it's amazing!
Wilfrid
It is not. That’s feeble.
Sneakeater
It's beyond feeble.
mongo_jones
this is another entry in eater's patented genre: barely re-written press release masquerading as an article.
Sneakeater
Although I'm sure Ariel Arce and her press flacks know where the Cornelia Street Cafe was (and wasn't).
Wilfrid
I wouldn't be so sure her flacks would know, and since I agree it reads like a press release ("Niche Niche’s ending is not so much a closing for Arce as a transition...") it is entirely possible that the error came from the release and Eater failed to fact check. Even though there's a clue in the name.
GerryOlds
End of an era.
Sneakeater
Yeah they wouldn't want to keep one of their few (if not only) competent writers, would they? Although I'm not even sure how Vox justifies maintaining both Eater NY and Grub Street.
