Wilfrid1
Bringing his Chowhound inaccuracies over here!
Lex
I am certainly glad to be wrong about that. I drew the conclusion when I walked past on a sunny Saturday afternoon and found the place locked up tight. OTOH we're only talking about a 6 week window before an institution disappears. First Penn Station, then McHales ... There's a real "last helicopter out of Saigon" sadness about places in their final days. I think I'll get there soon rather that push it until the last days of December.
ngatti
I hoped Chowhound was wrong again, but no - McHale's really is closing. In fact, worse than that, it's being demolished. New York Post. We have until January 1 to enjoy one of the last remaining real bars in the Times Square neighborhood. Sounds like a reason for a MF gathering. edit: A proper Irish Wake, so to speak. Pingarina
Oh, let's do that. The place is certainly big enough for a crowd. Lex, I know what you mean about the place looking closed. They've been keeping weird hours the past year or so. Found the place chained up and dark at around 11:00 on a Saturday night about 18 months ago.
Orik
they've been keeping weird hours for at least the past 7 years.

Wilfrid1
I have been keeping weird hours for so long, they are no longer weird.
Abbylovi
I'm gnashing my teeth and pulling my hair at the injustice of the world. BLIND TIGER IS CLOSING. Go soon and go often. From an email I just received: Our execution is set for Tues Dec 27th at 4 a.m. There will be no reprieve. The good news is, according to a recent scientific study, stress does not cause cancer. If it did, the Blind Tiger would be taking us with her. According to the official story, our landlord is renovating the building for some really expensive apartments, and he wants to replace us with a Marc Jacobs store. If he let us stay, we might keep his new tennants up at night. I tried to tell him our stereo only has one working speaker left, and it doesn't always work. He didn't care. I also said you guys would be really really quiet. He told me Starbucks was hiring and they had a good pension plan. Gentrification is pretty funny until it happens to you. Wilfrid1
Yes, saw a rumor on CH yesterday, but was hesitant to repeat it. Did I not read that they were looking at alternative space nearby?
Stone
I was at McHales last night. You'll be relieved to know that there's a Bennigans across the street. Phew.
omnivorette
Yeah, we noticed that little piece of irony last week. Ugh.

Abbylovi
Yes, saw a rumor on CH yesterday, but was hesitant to repeat it. Did I not read that they were looking at alternative space nearby? I hope so. Here's what they say in the email : Don't worry, we've got our own "Strategy for Victory." The Small BusinessAdministration is offering cheap commercial property in Iraq, and they're throwing in paramilitary training for anyone who's interested. After searching fruitlessly for an affordable space in New York, we decided to purchase an excellent corner in an up and coming section of Fallujah. It was even cheaper than some of the other properties because it's still behind enemy lines. They say that if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. Well, we didn't make it. Maybe we'll have better luck opening a micro-beer bar in the middle of a jihad.
