Beef ribs, specialty butchers, local farms...

Recommended Posts

Hello all -- just wanted to ask the local/resident expert resources...

I am looking to get beef ribs, locally, Northern NJ...anyone know a good place? A high-quality butcher? A specialty butcher? I've already got my pork ribs covered, LOL.

Does anyone know anything about Fossil Farms (Boonton). Here's their website:

I was looking around the internet -- for wild boar sausage, maybe a few other meats -- and I found these people. Looks like a strong offering. Anyone know anything about them?

Any other "farms" like this in Northern NJ -- with a focus on meats? Thank you in advance.

I like Fossil Farms and use them regularly. They have a retail store in Boonton, a few minutes off I-287. Poor Henry's pub on the corner is a fine establishment.

For a large order you might want to check Green Village Packing Company on Britten Road in Chatham Twp / Harding Twp. Been there forever, and have a huge commercial trade.

I've posted on each of these in the past.

For wild boar sausage, I dig D'Artagnan...

I know...I've just had trouble finding it...it's not in any of the supermarkets around me...I called them and they said "Shoprite" and another, I checked and they didn't have it...when I do want it, I guess I am going to have to order it directly/online from them.

This was more a last minute thing, LOL.

D'Artagnan products show up in Fairway (Woodland Park, at least) butcher cases. They also have a Nodine sausage which is pretty good.

I also enjoy sausage from Janek's Meats. There's one in Passaic, on Monroe Street, right off 21. And a second store in Mahwah on 202, at the top of the hill coming out of Suffern. Opposite that upscaled biker bar across the street. The bar looks pretty nice now.

I'm guessing you checked out the butcher in Fair Lawn (opposite the Dutch House), and the guy in Glen Rock.

Thanks Paul -- actually I was going to head over to the Swiss Pork Store (that's the one you are referring to in Fair Lawn) today or tomorrow.

I know Janek's and thought there was one in Mahwah -- thanks for the heads up.

What/who is in Glen Rock? Thanks again Paul.

European Meat Market in Glen Rock, on that section of Rock Road between the two railroad lines (!). North side of the street.

It's been years since I've been there, don't know if it still exists.

I'm about due for another trip to the Hungarian pork and sausage store on Parker Avenue in Clifton. It's been a while since I've done a sausage and rye bread run into that 'hood
