Mekelburg's

Recommended Posts

Thank you to all who came and supported us.  The opening party was a ton of fun and super hectic.. If you know 20 people in a place and you get to spend 5 minutes with each person, it will take you two hours just to say hello... But, this is always the case with these things.. Our staff was super excited to see the place realized and buzzing and filled with happy people..

The chocolate babka stout that the Grimm's made for us, is among my favorite stouts I think I have ever had.. It tastes just like a freaking babka with even a little more salt than our babka has..

But all in all, a success and thank you all, those who came and those who are just supporters of Alicia and myself.

“Sweet is the overwhelming flavor” noted one tasting panelist, while another compared it to syrup, a comparison that’s helped by the beer’s relatively viscous texture. If you’re the type of person who prefers a hoppy IPA, or even a standard-issue Guinness, this silky sugar bomb won’t be for you.

No press is bad press.. I am assuming the people on the panel  have not drank many stout beers.. This beer is firstly, among the lightest stouts I have ever had.. And the tasting notes are dark chocolate and a ton of salt on the finish.. There really is nothing sweet or syrupy about this beer..  I am even someone who normally hates stout and something in the 12 percent range normally is an alcohol bomb while this is incredibly deceptive.

But we are certainly happy to be mentioned and are still blown away by what an incredible job the Grimm's have done.

Daniel, do you have it at both locations? And how long will you have it for?

We have it to drink on tap and can at both locations right now.. We only have cans to go at Domino.

I’m drinking one at Domino right this very minute.

I missed you by moments!

My wife and I took a leisurely ferry ride up the East River to the new Mekelburg's for a low-key decadent birthday lunch yesterday (with a low-key decadent whiskey tasting at Kings County Distillery).

The apple/butternut squash bisque with foie gras "Oreo" was orgasmic. The cracklin's "l'amuse" was pretty killer too, and the meatloaf -- how do you make a meatloaf sandwich that rich and decadent feel so light and airy?

And that babka beer....

Good stuff! GOOD STUFF!
