StephanieL
Thanks to the swine flu scare, we got cheap tickets for our trip to Mexico City in November. But damn, the taxes & fees were ridiculous--an additional $100 for a ticket that cost $190.
ghostrider
Mass Bay T.A. bans cell phones. The head of the Boston-area transit authority said Saturday he'll ban all train and bus operators from even carrying cell phones on board after a trolley driver told police he was texting his girlfriend before a collision Friday. About 50 people were hurt in the underground crash in downtown Boston, though none of the injuries was life-threatening. It's a start.

GG Mora
An early walk in the woods with the dog today. I haven't been out there since before the snow melted (been taking the pooch to less muddy venues for exercise). Today it was glorious, green and damp and alive with everything – ferns and wildflowers (loads of trillium, red and white), birds and birdsong (Macy flushed out a grouse...silly me without my shotgun), burbling water in the brooks, even a box turtle in the trail. What a way to start a Tuesday.

Wilfrid1
I just got the credit card bill from the Paris trip, and it seems I took much too gloomy a view of the exchange rate. The expensive restaurant dinners are being calculated at $1.35 per Euro. I thought it was going to be over $1.50. Makes a difference, given the size of some of the checks. I'd now say L'Ambroisie and Pierre Gagnaire are about the same price as Per Se; I had the impression that they were going to work out rather more expensive. Extravagant though the trip was, if I stick to the resolution of avoiding triple digit dinner bills in New York this month, the budget will balance without too much pain. No bail-out required. hollywood
I just got the credit card bill from the Paris trip Did you get charged any foreign transaction "fee"? If not, what sort of card are you using?
Wilfrid1
Amex. They increase the conversion rate by a small percentage, which I suppose is a fee.

Some cards have added a 3% surcharge or something. Appreciate the Pink Pig's ongoing coverage of Paris eats.
