Lex
F-35A IOC in a few hours! And here we go again. US Air Force grounds F-35 fighter jets Washington (CNN)The US Air Force said Friday it has grounded 10 of its F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, just over a month after they were declared "combat ready." The decision affecting the most expensive weapons system ever was made "due to the discovery of peeling and crumbling insulation in avionics cooling lines inside the fuel tanks," the Air Force said in a statement, describing the action as a temporary pause in flight operations." The faulty cooling lines affected a total of 57 aircraft, the statement said. Only 15 of those planes had been fielded with the remainder still on the production line and will be fixed there. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/16/politics/us-air-force-grounds-f-35/ --------------------------- Reading your posts is like watching someone light up an exploding cigar and take a couple of puffs. taion
Have you considered reading any coverage in the specialist press? I think there's a word for people who read CNN pieces and fancy themselves instant experts in the topic at hand. Morten Hanche's writing in this area is pretty informative: http://nettsteder.regjeringen.no/kampfly/2016/09/16/lack-of-perfection-does-not-mean-disaster-how-i-read-test-reports-as-a-pilot/

Lippy
For the past few months, I have been writing letters to the New York Times in response to columns in their opinion section. I seem to have been admitted into the club, because I am batting 100% with getting my letters posted on-line next to the columns. Today I wrote two letters in response to Krugman and David Brooks columns. Obviously these are political commentaries. But it feels kind of good that the audience of potential readers for my posts are far larger than the handful of friends on Facebook who "like" my posts. It's nice to have your voice heard. Have any of these been published in the hard copy of the paper?
Melonius Thunk
Not that I know of. I don't get the hard copy. I doubt it because they get thousands of letters on line.

Paul is often accepted, too, in response to the same columns. I am, but pretty much only in comments on food articles, and those seem not to be of much interest to the general public, or at least not enough to gain the status whereby one is automatically posted without moderation. Lippy
I've had only a few hard-copy letters to the editor published, but many on-line comments. I think if you avoid snarky comments and the statement adds something to the discussion, they publish it. It's very satisfying, especially when other readers "recommend." Oh, you'd know, because they always telephone the writer to confirm identity and spelling of your name.

prasantrin
I had an "Ask Well" question published and answered. They didn't even edit my question, as they sometimes do. Whether it was online only or also in print, I do not know.
