As someone recently pointed out, I am very much a "glass half empty" kind of guy.   That being said, occasionally there is a beam of joy in the misery that is my life.   Today,it was coming home a

It is a perfect day in Paris too. Had a lovely walk around the 9th this morning, and will soon be going to meet a friend for lunch, it will be nice to eat outside.

Because of some holiday, the subway is very empty today.

The kitchen is 95% done!  One of the pantry drawers arrived broken (which should have been discovered weeks ago), but once the replacement comes in we can just slide it in.  We also need to have the final inspection (won't happen until after New Year's), with some small tune-ups to be made.

You know your construction project is basically over when they take away the portable toilet that's been in the driveway.

You know you're not in NYC when they have a portable toilet...in the driveway.  As opposed to using the hole in the floor in the bathroom while it's being renovated at the same time.

When we did the major renovation in our house 25 years ago (gutting and enlarging the kitchen and building a much bigger master bathroom above it), there was no need for a portable toilet because there was/is a powder room on the ground floor.

The kitchen passed final inspection, and I gave the last check to the contractor.  I'm up in the air as to whether or not to get the crew in one last time to fix any cabinet pulls and knobs which are misaligned, or just live with them.

Also, my dad's cousin sent me a JPEG of a photo she has in her house of her mother (my great-aunt) and my grandmother as small children, along with their parents, from about 1920.  I'd never before seen what that great-grandmother of mine looked like.  In the only other photograph we have of her, she's in profile and partially in shadow.
