As someone recently pointed out, I am very much a "glass half empty" kind of guy.   That being said, occasionally there is a beam of joy in the misery that is my life.   Today,it was coming home a

It is a perfect day in Paris too. Had a lovely walk around the 9th this morning, and will soon be going to meet a friend for lunch, it will be nice to eat outside.

It takes 5:00 to hang a picture, yet somehow I could not find the time for this one until now. It used to hang in my grandparents' house in the Bronx, and it's why I chose the color of this

The kid made matzoh balls all by himself, with no help from a parent for first time. And they were nice and fluffy.

Oddly, I am making bread dumplings as I type this.

Picked up my 1/2 of a pig Saturday.  Ribs, chops, roasts, leaf lard, back fat, trotters, shanks, ham, shoulder, jowl bacon, regular bacon, fresh belly,  heart and liver. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Approximately 110 lbs of meat all in. My only mistake was not having them cut the ham into smaller portions. It is freaking huge!

Well, it sort of was.

Here's what happened.

I asked for a pound of lamb's neck and two kidneys for the Lancashire Hotpot I'm planning to feast on while hiding out in my apartment tonight.  But they wouldn't portion out the neck they had:  I had to buy the whole thing.  So I ended up with a little more than two pounds of lamb's neck.  The butcher then threw in two more kidneys to keep the proportion.

Obviously, I'll be eating this hotpot well into 2023.

Started the New Year by organizing the kid's closet and drawers. Two massive bags of clothing to pass on, and equally massive bag of textile recyclables. And some very organized drawers. I'm feeling very pleased with myself. Now, the big question is - How long will the order be maintained? I give it until Tuesday.

Not only intervention from aliens, but the mere growth factor is boggling.   I keep a "grandma's  drawer" of kids' clothes that always seem to be 6 months too small.
