The one we're replacing is a Miele that only lasted 10 years.

This is interesting.  Our first Miele was 13 years old when we finally renovated the kitchen. It was in perfect condition, and I was able to sell it, along with some IKEA cabinets and a Bosch range.  Another Miele replaced it.

My friggin' Miele vacuum cleaner is 20. They make good products, especially when taken care of.

As someone recently pointed out, I am very much a "glass half empty" kind of guy.   That being said, occasionally there is a beam of joy in the misery that is my life.   Today,it was coming home a

It is a perfect day in Paris too. Had a lovely walk around the 9th this morning, and will soon be going to meet a friend for lunch, it will be nice to eat outside.

It takes 5:00 to hang a picture, yet somehow I could not find the time for this one until now. It used to hang in my grandparents' house in the Bronx, and it's why I chose the color of this

Was looking up the poet Nathaniel Mackey to see if he had published anything new and discovered fthat my article about him is on the first page of Google Search results (for "Nathaniel Mackey 'Double Trio'"; his last book).

My 92 hours without electricity in the Great Austin Ice Storm is now over. Out of 350K households without power, there are still 38.5K awaiting hookups. Fortunately it wasn't as cold for the duration as the 2021 Snowmageddon. My house stayed in the upper 50s during the day. Good opportunity to clean out the fridge. Beginning on Thursday, my branch library was open with heat, internet, and charging stations.

We're flying out to NJ in June for a quick visit for a big family party.  United changed the planes and our seat assignments on us already, but the change meant we could upgrade to Premium Plus for a decently priced fee.  On a long morning flight, that's going to be a nice, small luxury.

Ordered a used copy of Alice Fulton’s first book of poems, Dance Script with Electric Ballerina. Inexpensive, about $11.

Shows up in the mail and it’s signed and inscribed by the author. I guess the bookseller didn’t notice.

A year or two ago i unwittingly bought a signed poetry collection by Wanda Coleman, but when I checked the bookseller did know and it had probably elevated the price a little.

I just stumbled upon an electrical outlet I had totally forgotten about in my kitchen!

I hope "stumbled upon" isn't a euphemism for "gave myself an electric shock".

I wish I could do that. I like my kitchen, and it’s spacious for New York, but it only has one viable outlet way down at one end of the counter. (I don’t count the microwave outlet in a cupboard or whatever is behind the fridge as viable).

The Sunday Business section today has an article about furniture reselling companies in the Bay Area who buy up all of the discarded expensive office furniture from companies that have shut down or have transitioned to fully or mostly remote workstaff.  I have a wonderfully comfortable Herman Miller Aeron chair at work, and thanks to this article have found a (legitimate) company right in my town that's selling Aeron chairs at a stupidly low discount.  I'm going to buy one for home as soon as I figure out which model my office chair is.

I went in for recommended tests today and was already designing my shroud.    Was sent home with a followup appointment: March 1, 2024.    Plus when I told this specialist that we were without a primary care md and couldn't get into the UC system, he suggested he write me a referral.     YES!.   I had been trying ti get in for 6 months and was told every time to "call back later.".
