NFL 2016

Recommended Posts

It's not like a young Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck is available in the draft this year. The names are Wentz and Goff. And neither of them was expected to be drafted at number 1. That honor went to Laremy Tunsil, an offensive tackle.

A lineman was considered to be better than either of those 2 quarterbacks.

No, it's all about marketing. From the LA Times.

In one daring move, for the first time since arriving here two months ago, the Rams show they understand they now work in a Los Angeles sports landscape that demands winning, entertainment, and stars. Only with a franchise quarterback can a football team satisfy all three requirements, and suddenly the Rams have a chance to acquire that quarterback.
...
The Rams have blown this scenario before in making Sam Bradford the No. 1 overall pick in 2010. But at least they already understand the marketplace enough to know that they need to keep swinging big. It helps that this could be the kind of dare necessary in the final years of the contracts of Coach Jeff Fisher and General Manager Les Snead.
...
Those who claim this is an awful deal because the Rams had to give up three high picks this year and their top pick next year don't understand that this town doesn't like paying for future possibilities, only entertaining realities. Those who claim that neither Wentz nor Goff will be immediate impact stars in the manner of an Andrew Luck or Cam Newton are missing the point.

If the Rams are 7-10 and 8-8 over the next 2 years I think the magic of this moment is going to wear thin.

But so what? theyre going to be 6-10 even with a bajillion uncertain draft picks. May as well get some hype and play the lottery.

Welcome to the 15% who think this is a good idea.

Lets say they draft Wentz, who by most accounts is a serviceable QB. And they go 8-8 for the next 2 years because they can't put a good team around him because they gave away all their draft picks. How do you think the crowd at the Coliseum will react? I'll give you a hint.

Because Wentz's price is so high people are going to expect him to play like a star. It's going to be nearly impossible for him to live up to those expectations. He's going to become the symbol of everything that's wrong with the Rams.

the rams have a lot of good young players. the defensive front seven is as good as any in the league.

That may be so but the Rams were 23rd in the league last year in total defense. How are they going to get better without draft picks for the next 2 years?

It's not like they were one player away from the playoffs and Wentz will put them over the top.

Maybe they can still pick up Sanchez to mentor him?

Sanchez is going to start in Denver and will have that defense shutting down opponents. That's not a bad place to be.

Sanchez ought to send Chip Kelly a bottle of good Scotch every Christmas. By starting him 4 or 5 times in Philly he resurrected his career.

Exactly, LA owners paid big bucks to get Gretsky and Beckham and Reggie Jackson. Laker fans are waiting to see who the team is going to shower with money now that Kobe is freeing up cap space.

Again, how many teams does this 15% own?
