Wilfrid
I have mentioned this before, but I ate horse tartare in Barcelona years ago. Very good. I fully understand not wanting to eat horse if you have a special attachment. I've eaten a lot of rabbit and some guinea pig, but a hamster would be a step too far for me as I've kept so many as pets.
Orik
That's why nyc folks don't eat mice pie.
hollywood
Putting horsemeat aside, can anyone recommend a non-palace hotel in the Marais?
Steve R.
Hotel Turenne (https://turennemarais.com) is, I think, around $300/night and is literally the only hotel I’ve heard decent things about in the lower Marais. Jessika or Joe might know more, especially about the upper Marais. It may be worth checking out apt. rentals as well, even for a couple of nights. The Marais is full of them. Steve R.
When we walked to the market in the Upper Marais (Enfants Rouges), we kept passing the Hotel Sookie (www.hotelsookie.com/en/). Not a clue other than I just looked it up and it seems reasonable. Was in a pretty busy intersection, if I remember correctly.
joethefoodie
Our airbnb hosts recently sent me a picture of a new, fancy hotel (a block or two away from their apartments) in the upper Marais... https://www.maison-proust.com/en/maison-proust/ I'm with @Steve R. - plenty of airbnb stuff in this neighborhood. Steve R.
$600-700/night + tax. Looks interesting.
hollywood
It's an eyeful.
hollywood
Thanks, Steve. Turenne seems booked. Sookie looks interesting.

It's fine (or was fine when we stayed there 10+ years ago), but for that money you can stay in a palatial airbnb.
Miguel Gierbolini
I usually stay in apartments but in 2019 stayed at Le Compostelle in rue de Roi de Sicile. https://www.lecompostelle.com/en/ Nice and simple. Barely any amenities. Excellent location.
hollywood
Thanks. Great location. Pretty much booked.
Tubbs
If anyone has any recs for spots near the Marais open Sunday dinner...
joethefoodie
We like Le Grand Bain on Sunday nights. It's a nice walk, or 2 Metro stops from Republique. 1
