Jewish Delis in NYC?

Recommended Posts

Some of you guys are going to think there places on this list which are not delis; and maybe even not Jewish.

21 Stellar Jewish Delis

At least they admit that David's Brisket House isn't a Jewish deli anymore, but still, why include it?

Junior's is totally not a deli--more like a diner or a very big coffee shop. Even with the caveat, Eisenberg's is a coffee shop at best.  And Russ & Daughters and Barney Greengrass aren't delis because the focus is on smoked fish; in the old days, they would have been dairy places like Ratner's.

Russ & Daughters explicitly says it's not a deli on the website.  I just like having the same discussion every few years.

i think Ben's Best in Rego Park is better than Ben's Kosher. Ben's Best also serves nice portions

I don't think Eisenberg's is a deli. To me, it's a coffee shop.   Harry & Ida's, perhaps? Though there is no seating.

I think insisting David’s isn’t a Jewish Deli because the people currently running it aren’t Jewish is like insisting LCC and Frenchette aren’t French restaurants because the people running them aren’t French.

Don't you need the servers to be observant if you are some level of observant?

Difference between the terms “Jewish Deli” and “Kosher Deli”. (No one would doubt that Katz’s is a Jewish Deli.)
