Wilfrid
I know none of you would want to miss the opportunity to celebrate with me this fourth anniversary of my triumphant conclusion of a strict Keto diet that I abandoned in New Orleans in November 2019 (around the same time succumbing to a Foxface sandwich). I have since been on a moderate-to-low carb diet. Four years later, the 40 pound-plus weight loss is easily maintained without cravings. More easily maintained because the market is now flooded with very low carb breads, tortillas, chips and so on. Not for everyone, but this meets my definition of having worked for me.
small h
I congratulate you, and I envy your ability to adhere to a keto diet. I was a miserable failure at it. Not eating meat was probably one reason. Another is my enduring affection for fruit, root vegetables and alcohol.
Sneakeater
That would be a problem.

Wilfrid
Alcohol? Gin, whisky and vodka have no carbs. If you don’t eat meat you would have to eat a lot of fatty fish, and if vegan, live on avocados.
Wilfrid
Of course, a low calorie diet may not suit those who prefer high calorie foods 🤔 14 hours ago, MitchW said: I'll add pasta and rices to this.yes
MitchW
I think, though I may be wrong, that calories may be controlled by the quantity of food one eats, and burns, on a daily basis.
Wilfrid
My point is that if someone claims success with, say, a diet that excludes melons, dismissing it because you want to eat melons is fine, but… 🤷♂️ Yes, you will be a “miserable failure” at a low carb diet if you continue to eat rice and pasta. Wilfrid
New way to get fat and protein without carbs while out and about. Eat the filling of a quiche, leave the crust.
voyager
Er...right! As in meat pie, sandwiches, burritos... Some of us have eschewed carbs for decades before and without the strictures of keto. Keto certainly does work well and faster, but just saying "No" to gratuitous carbs is pretty simple. Husband has been eating lightly for several months. Not wanting to look like a hog beside his dainty plates, I have served myself similarly and have dropped some 15+ pounds without trying. As I've preached for years, it's not what you choose to eat but portion size.
relbbaddoof
Calvin Trillin quotes his father as saying that you can't gain more than a pound of weight from a pound of chocolate.
