Sneakeater Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 I remember the first time I heard "I'm on Fire". I was in the car with my mother. She was driving me from somewhere. Probably not somewhere good. A supermarket, something like that. I went with her cuz I was bored. Teenagers in the suburbs spend a lot of time that way. Our local radio station, which my mother listened to habitually, was weird. It was mainly the most MOR end of the current Top 40. But the DJs had their preferences. They played a lot of Mike Nesmith/First National Band. And they played this new record. Maybe it was payola. I don't know. Anyway, there was "I'm on Fire". I couldn't believe how great is was. I mean: PERFECT. I mean: everything I liked. 1 Quote
Sneakeater Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 (edited) And a BIG favorite: I don't know why this wasn't one of the monster hits of the mid-'70s. Certainly people who listened to the radio show I did then didn't know it wasn't. Edited November 5, 2023 by Sneakeater Quote
Sneakeater Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 (edited) I'll bet Twilley minds THIS new development in his arc. Edited November 5, 2023 by Sneakeater Quote
backyardchef Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 I love Twilley and was fortunate to correspond with him a little over the last few years. He was a good man and a true pop pioneer. American T Rex? Power Pop would not be the same without him. Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 I am surprised I never knew his work well considering how much time I spent listening to The Raspberries, The Rubinoos, the Greg Kihn band and all that power pop stuff. Quote
MitchW Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I'm sorting through, and reboxing, my collection of 45s. These are there: RIP Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Great. I will belatedly go back and listen. Quote
Sneakeater Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 And he has the advantage over the Flamin' Groovies of never having written a song dissing you. Quote
Sneakeater Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (I will never stop being intensely jealous of you for that.) Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 As if Cyril Jordan thought that writing a song about me would upset me! 1 Quote

Sneakeater Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Yeah I was shocked to find out that Dwight Twilley had never written a song dissing @Wilfrid too! Quote
