fml
So, should we meet on the little patio outside at 5:15 and menacingly block the door to ensure our precious seats? Is this our game plan for Wednesday, June 8th? Anyone else want to join us for meatballmongomania? mongomeatballmania?
rlm
Yeah, but I think you have cooties. Only a few. And I think I got them from Mongo at Yummy Yummy.
fredbram
We were in Saturday night with our next door neighbors. She ordered the meatball. I don't think she suspected anything when she placed her order with the server because I disguised my cackle of laughter and shock as a coughing fit. I think it's pretty good. It was on the salty side, but not too salty for us (Mary tried it as well). That being said, it's not a dish that I would be in a rush to re-order, and I am in a rush to re-order almost everything else we've eaten at Frasca. After the meal we told our neighbor a little about the great meatball controversy, and she allowed as how she was completely happy with El Meatball. We also discussed it with Bobby a little—he said it is not without controversy, and said that in fact he thinks it comes out too salty on occasion. Apparently the little bugger has a fan base. Especially among the Boulder locals. That’s the ball, not Bobby. Although he seems to have a fan base as well, which I count myself one of. I find him to be a very adroit dining room manager. Had the rack of veal and the frog legs, both perfectly prepared, not incredibly exciting dishes in terms of flavor combinations or uniqueness, but were exceptional in terms of high quality ingredients. The polenta was a big hit at our table also. A great job of wine pairings done by Nate and Bobby, we had I think 7 wines between the 4 of us, all in tajuts, and mostly northern italian. rlm
I wanted to try the frog legs. They were on the menu two weeks ago, but when I went back last Wednesday they had been replaced with a shrimp salad. Now I guess they're back again (must depend on their suppliers). So I had the polenta and the agnolotti again (mmmm). So CheeseMonger, were you still going to call and warn them of our appearance tomorrow?
CheeseMonger
So CheeseMonger, were you still going to call and warn them of our appearance tomorrow? I can if you like.... I'll call tomorrow.
mongo_jones
so, just confirming for this evening: rlm, fml, cheesemonger and jones meeting outside frasca at 5 pm? cheesemonger calling ahead to try and gain us an unfair advantage on the patchouli'd masses?
rlm
I will be there. Maybe we could press our faces against the window so they'll take pity on us and let us in early to imbibe and ponder the merits of the mighty meatball.
CheeseMonger
You guys might yell at me.... but....... my assistant cheesemonger may not be able to come in this afternoon to cover the last hour, although I am considering closing early with some plea on the door about an emergency- the meatball is an emergency, isn't it? She's supposed to call me sometime soon to tell me if she can make it.

See you all at 5:00 in front of Frasca.
mongo_jones
we may have a distinguished special guest. just got off the phone with lisa grossman (balmagowry on egullet)--she's in the region again and will try to make it. unfortunately, she's in evergreen and it is a bit of a drive. robert40
I noticed the menu changed a bit on the Frasca site today. How often does the menu change anyone know?
TheMatt
I noticed the menu changed a bit on the Frasca site today. How often does the menu change anyone know? It can change daily, I think. Sometimes the frog legs disappear if they aren't available. I know a while back when I went, the 21 Orders was different from the day before when I looked on-site, to the next day when I went and ate. Luckily, the "damn meatball" is still on it for tonight! BTW, does anyone know the dates that they are closed for the Italian voyage? My bday is the 29th and I thought I might try to go early and splurge with my grad student moneys. But if they are in Italy by then, that plan may backfire.
CheeseMonger
I've noticed those frog legs jumping on and off the menu, and they can easily change it to reflect availability, but a complete change of offerings? I don't know. And, today is so slow that I hardly think I'll be missed if I close early, and thinking of that lamb is making my head swim a little. So, it's terribly likely that I will be pressing my nose to the window with you at 5:25.
