joethefoodie
Well, someone has to start this thread, and I did go last night, but it took Significant Eater longer than expected to arrive, so I was content with an aperitif and a glass of Pet Nat, and 5 delicious pig's foot croquettes at the bar, where at least the seats are padded, albeit backless. Prices are kind of startlingly low, but I imagine that's just for the opening, or however long it takes them to realize they need to charge more. My drink and glass of wine at the bar were served in Reidel - I can't imagine that will last either, and the bartender did mention to me that the Martini glass breakage during F & F was high. Nice looking room. Friendly as hell staff. Looking forward to an imminent return.
Wilfrid
Photos on Instagram of the duck frites, an obvious temptation. Looks great, but also easy to make at home. Okay the duck more than the chips.
Wilfrid
Imagining it will be insanely busy.
Suzanne F
Oh good, we can have a Mahler chicken there. It took me a little while to realize it's in the former Cercle Rouge space.

Oddly, the third Martini glass breaks much more often. Riedel trade prices are ridiculously low btw.

I doubt Reidel trade prices for these glasses is as low as Libby's. Unless, and maybe they are, getting the first batch for free.
Orik
You wrote "Martini glass breakage", so. Around $5/glass for their restaurant series - of course a bit more for nicer ones and a lot more for the very nice ones that break when you breathe on them. Their terrible "merlot" decanters are about $7 each.
joethefoodie
Yeah, I was just relating what the bartender told me after I asked him about using Reidels. When a certain SCB bar opened at the sort of start of the NYC cocktail craze, they were paying $11 a stem for a particular glass. Needless to say, that didnt last long. Orik
And that is why you can't have nice things. In Japan we use these for $15 glasses of wine and these for expensive wine. Breakage is around one in 5000 glasses served. But enough derailment. Exciting to have them cooking again.
Sneakeater
I hope it doesn't already suck by the time I get back to New York next week.

And even if they're not doing anything extremely innovative, if they're doing some classics and some bending of classics really well, it will be a nice addition. OTOH, it's literally next door to Batard, which has to be a little unsettling.

For that alone I love them.

For that alone I love them. Provided you don't mind a Balthazar-esque wait, the omelet at La Mercerie, the pseudo-sequel to Le Coucou, is excellent. Also, I'm kind of disappointed that Frenchette isn't launching with a black label burger.
Sneakeater
Being serious for a moment, they have to regret the way the burger came to dominate Minetta.
Suzanne F
Why, if it brought in customers? Oh, wait, they didn't own Minetta Tavern. So yeah, maybe they could have regretted it.
