Christopher Howse, "Soho in the Eighties"

I kept wondering why all these Brits were hanging out in Soho bars I'd never heard of.  Then I got to Soho in the Fifties, and I thought, Soho didn't even exist in the '50s.

 

Finally I realized that this is a different Soho.

The small “h,” man, the small “h.”

 

One can assume I think that the New York locution was inspired by London. I’m sure you know, but “Soho!” was a hunting cry, like “Tally ho!” — from the days nobles from the Westminster court chased unfortunate critters there:

There are a couple of typos, but I am happy I wrote that piece. It could be much longer, but it says some things I wanted to say.

 

Not to take the limelight from Howse’s actual book.
