Rich
The Dodgers have moved into the pathetic zone. Really, Kershaw, back to back hanging sliders? Yes, you might want to check the Nationals' bats to see if they have lead in them, but how many golpher balls can you throw? It's like the old days when the Dodgers would win the NL pennant and face the Yanks in the series. The Yankees demolished them until 1955. Spoke to Sandy Amoros once about why he was playing so close to left field line for Berra, who was a notorious left-handed pull hitter. The conversation was fascinating. That play saved the series for Podres and the Dodgers. Three runs would have scored and the 1955 Yankees would have won the World Series.
Rich
The only question left is will the Astros - Yankees winner have a letdown when they face the Cardinals - Nationals winner?
hollywood
I am amazed at the way the Nationals' pitching is holding up.
mitchells
Managers so often over-manage in the playoffs. Last night was an example of that. Aaron Boone hopping on the over-managing wagon.
hollywood
Gene Mauch held the patent on over-managing for many years.
Wilfrid
Managers so often over-manage in the playoffs. Last night was an example of that. Aaron Boone hopping on the over-managing wagon. Absolutely. Taking out a pitcher who is pitching really well is managing by a book rather than by what’s actually happening. Of course, you get away with it if the next pitcher doesn’t immediately get hit out of the park. Exhausting game, which could very easily have been won if not for that move. joethefoodie
It could only have been won had the offense produced. More.
joethefoodie
The bullpen did a fine job, by the way - whether they were "needed" or not, the fact is that Boone didn't want to let the game get away from Paxton, as it easily could have; it's not like he was blowing the Astros away. You still have to score more runs than the other team, a team which had scored only 2 thru 9.
Wilfrid
Ah, the team with the most runs wins? Gotcha.
joethefoodie
Yep, it's a lot more simple than people make it out to be.
hollywood
Sad end for the Yanks. Oh well, come back next year.

hollywood
Heck of a game. Good season. I miss Mariano. So do the Yankees.
joethefoodie
MLB gets the Nats vs Astros. Should be a nice, low rating.
hollywood
Since losing a second game to the Dodgers, the Nats have ripped off 8 consecutive victories. This is Bizarro World playoffs.
