Montesacro

Recommended Posts

Montesacro is a small chain that started in San Fransisco, then spread to Portland, and now has opened on Union Avenue just off Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg.

It specializes in Pinsa, the thick-crusted form of Roman pizza (as distinct from the thin-crusted Roman pizza that was all the rage the year before last).  Made authentically, as here, the crust is made from a blend of rice, soy, and wheat flour.

The pies are spectacular!  Well, the one I had -- something that doesn't appear on their online menu that was called something like an Infernezzo -- was.

I can't wait to try more!

Let me tell you how good this pie was.  I had one very soon after having had a gutbusting pastrami sandwich at Hometown BBQ Industry City (I had a show in Sunset Park, and then one in Williamsburg, and a lot of time to kill in between).  When the pinsa was set down in front of me, I thought, "there's no way I'm finishing this."

Reader, I finished it.
