Sssshhh! Quiet Restaurants

My introduction to really good food, regional restaurants in France in the 1980s, even busy places had no music, no design features geared to making the sound bounce around the room, just a low buzz of conversation which you wouldn’t overhear.

 

That may make me sound like an old curmudgeon, but clearly I am talking about ambience I preferred when I was in my twenties.
