I went to a local crafts fair today and scored 3 vintage coupe glasses for $9 total.  So we enjoyed a Twentieth Century in them in the backyard this afternoon. 1 1/2 oz. gin 3/4 oz. Lil

I need better supervision.

A cocktail worthy of having given its name to most important bar of our time, the Pegu Club: Pour 2 oz. Gin (Monkey 47!) and 3/4 oz. each of Curaçao and lime juice, with 1 dash each of Angostura

After a Pasta con la Colatura, you need to have some form of Limoncello as a digestivo.  You just do.  Anyone in Amalfi would.

Tonight, though, I was feeling a cocktail.

A Walk in the Woods

This one badly named cocktail:  there's nothing woodsy about it in the slightest.

They should have called it We'll Sing in the Sunshine.

1 oz. amber Rum

1 oz. Vermouth Blanc

1 oz. Limoncello

Stir.  Strain into rocks glass over ice.  Garnish with a big lemon peel.

Wow, hard to believe someone hasn't come up with a kosher dry vermouth.

It's available. It just sucks. And for whatever reason the decent stuff (which you can get in Israel and the UK) isn't imported to the US because they don't think there is a market for it (there is)

I'm surprised Duty Free doesn't stock it in Israel or UK airports. It sound like it would be a pretty good seller.

*presuming a friend who recently mentioned something similar returning from the the UK is correct.

In our buildings, we have shabbos elevators.  We also have an upcoming project to replace all 24 elevators, meaning the shabbos elevators will be out of service for a good 3 months in each of our 12 towers.  In those instances, our observant population seems to get a special dispensation in order to take the standard elevators, and not walk up and down many flights of stairs.

I think, for as often as one might have a cocktail containing non-kosher vermouth (i.e. good vermouth), a special dispensation is warranted. And I offer it.

in my building, we don't have shabbos elevators and when i first moved in, i noticed many residents just lurking in the elevator bank at the weekends. my mom figured it out one day when one of the unfriendly neighbors who never returned a greeting stared and smiled awkwardly at her, when my mom stepped out of the elevator, but didn't get on. my mom said she pressed the down button for her and told the woman "you're on your own to get to the lobby button pressed".

my mom would say, drink the good vermouth, life is short and you'll be forgiven

But how'd they know your mom wasn't Jewish? (Because I think, but don't quote me, the shabbos goy can't be a Jew).
