This is really delicious, actually.  I take back any derisive comments I might have made about Sipsmith in the past.

But I'm still going for something gutsier in my Martinis.

Lillet and soda over ice.  I must have poured a lot more Lillet than I'd planned, because I ended up needing a mid-afternoon nap.

I discovered that a Jack Rose doesn't taste as good if you use a combo of regular and Meyer lemon juices rather than only regular lemon juice.

When you come down to it, a Tom Collins might be my favorite beverage, alcoholic or not.

(And don't be telling me it would be better without sugar or Simple.)

Yes, I think without sugar I'd rather be drinking a Rickey.

Leave out the sugar (and switch from lemon to lime) and you HAVE a Rickey (although of course to make a Rickey properly you’d reduce the amount of juice).

Tom Collins and Lime Rickey are good drinks.    A gin gimlet would be a good drink had I not thought so to excess one night many years ago,

Kentucky Maid. A marriage of a whiskey sour and a Badminton Cup.

2 thinly cut cucumber slices
8 mint leaves
3/4 ounce simple syrup
1 ounce lime juice
2 ounces bourbon

Muddle cukes, mint, and simple until cukes are broken down. Add lime juice and bourbon and shake well over ice. Strain into a rocks glass. Serve on ice. Garnish with a slice of cucumber and mint sprig.

Well, this is dangerous. Because I have all these things. And I've also already drunk a martini and two glasses of wine. But H is in the living room hosting sportsball with some menfolk, and I am left to my own devices back here. What to do, what to do.
