StephanieL Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) Reading what happened in the 5th made me grateful for needing to be at chorus rehearsal that night. I'd have broken something had I witnessed it in real time. Edited November 2, 2024 by StephanieL 1 Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 My luck, I was at the Hinds concert for the blow out win and had to watch game five. Quote

bloviatrix Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Once upon a time the Yankees won the series playing small ball. But then the bought in to the idea of the long ball being the answer to everything and they forgot their fundamentals. My kid watched some of the games and was criticizing their defense. 1 Quote
Steve R. Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) The defensive miscues are a trade off for the offensive players they wanted/got. Jazz's throws from 3rd to 1st were an adventure (I know... he's not a 3rd baseman), Torre's mental gaffes were befuddling and, say what you will about Soto's otherwise greatness, his right field prowess was obviously not. On offense, they got the same streakiness. They were better than the Dodgers when they got hot & looked like a AAA team when they did their "deer in the headlights" impressions. They met a team that looked & played like professionals & got beat, as the announcers said, "around the margins" (almost error free and taking advantage of everything offered). I'd say "wait till next year" but we won't see this team again. Rizzo won't be the only one gone. I expect a new primary catcher, new 2nd baseman (Jazz to 2nd & new 3rd baseman? Cabrera?), new left fielder & maybe the need for a Soto replacement as well. And a big bullpen shakeup. Anyone think that Boone survives? Edited November 3, 2024 by Steve R. Quote

Steve R. Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I guess this is as good a place as any for some of us to say goodbye to Soto while others say hello. I'm just glad that he'll still be on our city's tax rolls. 2 Quote
Steve R. Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 When the first thing you do after losing Soto is buy a starting pitcher, it gotta say something to the 7 you already have, no? I figure that Fried will start alongside Cole & Rodon, so which of the others start packing in advance of some trade for a top notch position player the Yankees actually need (catcher? 1st base?) or want to move up on? Everyone's guessing Stroman (I wouldn't mind) but Gil and Schmidt would bring more. Nestor? Quote

I'm such an admirer of yours, but I have to say (looting McCarthy) that every word you say above, except "a" and "the", is incomprehensible. Quote
relbbaddoof Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) What is foots ball? A corruption of cricket? ETA: I get it now, you are talking of bases ball. ETA ETA: Whichever, still corruptions of the one true game. Edited December 11, 2024 by relbbaddoof Quote

Bye, Nestor. Hope this reliever we got is good. Definitely needed. Who's next? Stroman, hopefully. With Gil as #4 and Schmidt back in the pen and ready to start when needed. Now, when do we get a 1st baseman and a better starting catcher? Quote
