Wilfrid
I don’t want a big winter storm I don’t like them. Go away.
Sneakeater
It was so beautiful as I walked from the subway stop to my apartment tonight/this morning. Tomorrow, though, all bets are off. (I’m certainly not getting up early to go to the Greenmarket.)

This was a pretty normal occurrence, even more than once a winter. I guess I used to tell people if they didn't like winter or winter storms, they shouldn't live here. Evelyn
I remember one of my first visits to NYC was an early February solo trip. I had a reservation at Alison on Dominick. Basically a blizzard was forecast for later that night. Great meal in the nearly empty restaurant. Still the best lamb shank I've ever had. I make that recipe at least once a year. The storm hit early. At least 4" of snow had fallen while I was having dinner. Still coming down in almost whiteout conditions. The most snow this little Southern girl had (and to this day has) seen. And of course, not a cab in sight. And me, certainly not dressed for a long walk. Tom Valenti actually came to my rescue, offering to drive me back uptown.

It must be time to re-tell my story of that huge storm when I was working in 30 Rock, maybe it was 2000? Snow banked almost head high in the streets. I got to the office because I wasn’t far away, but it was empty and nothing was happening. I was dressed for it, boots, layers, heavy sweater. After mooching around for an hour or two, it occurred to me Le Cirque, then in the Villard Houses, would be empty if it was open. I crunched my way there, and open it was. The maitre d’ looked at me and muttered something about wearing a tie. I gestured at the Arctic Fantasia outside. ”Well, maybe you could just fasten your top shirt button.”
bloviatrix
The flakes yesterday morning were large and well defined. They looked so pretty.

Sneakeater
Yeah when I was a kid this is like what it consistently was from December till the end of February.
small h
I remarked to medium-sized H that if a storm like this one had hit during my childhood, it would've warranted a "drive safe out there, there's gonna be some snow!" at the sign-off of the evening news. As opposed to the the 5ish days of panting wall-to-wall coverage it receives now.
Anthony Bonner
You guys should look at the snowfall data. It's actually not that different. The 60s avg annual snowfall was 30.6 inches. The 10s 33.2. there's were as many 50+ inch years in the last decade as in the 50s, 60s,70s combined.

Sneakeater
The snow’s still small. It’s the reporting that got big.
