The farmer's market had a fair number of vendors today, but I didn't exactly end up with a lot of produce.  I got a salami, Lost Bread shortbread cookies AND granola, a small piece of smoked steelhead from Hudson and half a dozen apples. Oh, 2 celeriacs.

I remember one of my first visits to NYC was an early February solo trip. I had a reservation at Alison on Dominick. Basically a blizzard was forecast for later that night. Great meal in the nearly em

You'll have to move out to the Bay Area then. I'm grateful to be here now.  It's supposed to be a high of 66 today.

Or you could get yourself invited to Stef and N's, dine on produce plucked hours before from their garden, Flannery beef if you insist, grilled outdoors in February and forget about that top button.

Now wearing a visor as the sun is so strong I can barely read my PC screen. I could put a screen back in the window, but I thought I didn't really need it for the winter.

Yes! I got eggs, brussels sprouts, spinach, mushrooms, plums, fish and onions. Plums! What the hell.

Lovely sunny morning. Is it too early for a Spring 2023 thread?

Out here, it sure is.  Not only are we getting a vicious storm, but the Sierra is going to get pummeled with snow yet again.  My friends from NYC are probably regretting their choice to live out there full time (with a dog and toddler yet).

Have just been in contact with Stephanie.    Contrary to published reports, we are not submerged.   Other areas, not in such good shape.

So glad to hear that.  Lots of rural roads by me are now in worse shape than after Saturday's storm.  Plenty of closures due to mudslides, rocks, the roads washing away, etc.

Any word on what things are like by your cabin?

Just automated phone calls from our utility: “Power off”.  “Power on” , repeat,  repeat.   We’re on a hill.  Good drainage.  Good roof.   Wind is our nemesis as we have (had?) several dozen giant oak trees.   Snow is worse as it builds up and the weight pulls down limbs.   A couple of years ago we list a third of an olive tree to snow.

I woke up around 7am, looked up at the window over my bed, and there were snowflakes. Turned over and went back to sleep. Never saw any more. But I guess we had a flurry.

Good luck California people.

It's not really raining hard, but it's just wet enough, cold enough, gloomy enough for me not to bother going to an event tonight (not a ticketed event so I don't feel obliged).

The rain is gone for the time being, to be replaced by temps low enough to trigger freeze warnings.  N had to cover some of the more delicate plants in the garden earlier today.

As alluded to in other threads I traveled down to Bensonhurst today for headcheese from Netcost and lunch at Em. One reason was that the forecast was serious about rain. I thought I might as well sit on the subway (hour plus there, same back) with a book (Ashbery, A Wave) as sit in my apartment reading. Not much walking involved.

Of course, not a spot of rain fell. At 11pm tonight it is tipping down.
