it’s too bad we can’t take this restaurant back to san francisco with us.

berkshire pork schnitzel, lemon, potato salad, lingonberries - someone in the kitchen knows how to fry, as this was crisp and greaseless all throughout. loved the cucumbers on the side: tart with a hint of garlic that helped lend a counterpoint to the meat.

We went a couple of months ago for a friend's birthday & had a very nice time.  The place was very friendly, warm in a genuine way, and the food was all well prepared and tasty.  I even remember what I had (I usually don't when we're dining with others): the kingfish crudo & then the salmon en croute.  Both were excellent.

this was a prix fixe menu: three courses for $55.

everything was wonderful. i didn’t describe every dish because all of you would be bored and i would run out of synonyms for “delicious”.

Is that restaurant week or some end-of-summer-nobody's-around thing, or do they always have it?  I've always thought of Koloman as pretty expensive.

Restaurant Week (more like Restaurant Week Month since it ran for 4 weeks) ended on August 20th.

As Diancecht said, its placement on the menu makes it look like it's permanent (and he had it after the end of Restaurant Week, so we know it wasn't that).

I only had dinner there, and was indeed more expensive. Maybe they are kind at lunchtime. 

Mind you, I did have the schnitzel as well as the salmon en croute and probably something to start.

i forgot to mention 

viennese apple strudel, rum raisins, toasted hazelnuts, frozen buttermilk - hubby is hungarian (so you know there was that comparison thing going on) and said, “the pastry was flaky and one thing i appreciated was that overall, this dessert was not too sweet.”

i didn’t have a bite as i was too busy focusing on the creme brûlée (caramelized pineapple, mint).

As we're talking about this in another thread, I though I'd mention that the Koloman team is opening a wine bar below the restaurant.  Much more casual, with "snacks."

Ah I missed the bit where it said "heur heureux" (as the frech inexplicably don't call it). Still, a $12 martini is happy hour in my neighborhood, so that's a very good price for Koloman.

i ask because at our lunch at indian accent in delhi in march, a card listing the group's restaurants that came with the check included a koloman in new york. what are the odds there are two?
