Congrats - cause it's all about the team, no? (Or as the sign in my high school locker room said, "there is no I in team."

Wow, that is a piece of history.

They won 7-3. So he contributed to a serious chunk of their offense.

Great for Aaron, but now we do it all over again until he beats the record.

Well, the Mets got the much needed split on the west coast, and don't have to go back to the west coast for the rest of the regular season. And they even escaped without losing a much-needed everyday player or two , which was a distinct possibility at one point.

Has it been mentioned my loathing of the Braves? And their stupid tomahawk chop. And their stupid name.

Sport, huh.

Royals at Yankees last night, nobody bringing the offense. I think the Yankees had one hit through the 8th. But this was not a tense duel between pitchers and hitters: it was an endless succession of hitters coming up, fanning at three pitches outside the strike zone, and sitting down again.

0-0 in the 9th and I am explaining to the TV that I am not doing extra innings. I could have watched a movie or paint dry instead.

Bottom of the 9th, Judge hits the walk-off home run. Not such a bad night, I tell myself.

Yankees/Cardinals last night yesterday afternoon: four-and-a-half hours? Certainly not much short of that. Countless batters walked, a bizarre strike zone, pitchers taking forever (and forgivably needing to dry sweaty hands between each pitch).

But it's getting up there. Cricket only takes six hours.

And I think (?) 21 runs scored, 11 pitchers - that's gonna take a long time.

In other parts of NYC, the Mets game (7 runs scored) took 2 hours, 58 minutes. That's the way we like them.  2 and a half would be even better.

The umps are pretty much all horrible at this point...just go to robots already.

Boone was thrown out, Blake was thrown out. Mendoza was managing and walking out to the mound. He was on the brink and it was clear he was going to let Rizzo manage if he got the toss.

Reminder of happy days when the Yanks would be so far ahead that Torre would sit back and let Tino Martinez run the game.

The pitch clock is gonna be a welcome sight. But yeah, when they score 8 runs combined in the first two innings, that shit takes time.

There is no one who complains more about the length of a ball game than Keith Hernandez in the booth. But - he's gotta drive all the way to Sag Harbor after the games, and that's a long drive.
