That reminds me, is anyone else here going to the Bittman Cooks and Books dinner?

That's an awfully prosaic-looking menu! Or is it me being jaded?

Well, judging from the photos of the Provence Dinner ya-all just created I think it would take something REALLY fabulous to excite you.

"Big Head"....Funny/Bad Wendy  Cracked me up!

I'm thinking about it. Maybe if we go with you we'll finally have a great Union experience.

Gougeres... they're the new black. Seriously, why are they on every menu now?

We'd considered going to the Bittman dinner, and we still may. I like the idea, I just have never really gotten much out of Bittman's books, and I sure don't need two copies.

I don't know where they all came from all of the sudden. I used to really enjoy seeing them once a year or so. They aren't hard to make. Maybe everyone is just discovering that.

If you want a laugh, go and read the reviews for Giada's book on Amazon. Apparently there are hundreds of shots of Giada and few of the actual food.  ;)

And even more funny is this sentence from one of the reviews:

"This cookbook will not satisfy those with training in "haute couture," but what a find for the everyday cook. "

:D

Is "Everyday Italian" the new black?

Ahhhh! ;) No more lunch at Union! Yesterday's P-I had a little blurb in it that they would be closing for much to focus on dinner, and the hours shortened a little too. Their new hours are 5-11pm.

Damnit! And just when I'm about to start working within a couple blocks from them. :D Will probably save me a fortune however.

In an even stranger move, Osteria La Spiga is no longer serving lunch either. Now open 7 nights a week though.
