Wilfrid Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Just three days short of 100 and three months. Well done, Jimmy. 1 Quote
small h Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 It's sad when an actual good person dies. But it's happy that they lived so long and did so much for others. 2 Quote
maison rustique Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Think what a wonderful world it would be if every person performed just 1/10th of the good deeds he did. RIP. Quote
Evelyn Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I crossed paths with him on 3 different Delta flights over the years after his term ended. He went through the plane and shook every passenger's hand each time. RIP. 1 Quote
small h Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Amy Carter and I were shopping at Commander Salamander in Georgetown at the same time, summer of 1982. That's my only Carter-related story. I still have the shirt I bought, because I am a hoarder, and also the same size as I was then. Quote
Wilfrid Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 One degree of separation. I knew a litigation partner based in Atlanta who, as a young lawyer, had been offered -- and declined -- a role in the Carter administration. Looking him up, I learn that he passed away in June this year. That's my Jimmy Carter story. Quote
Steve R. Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) I once had a can of Billy Beer. And I used to eat Georgia peanuts. That's pretty much it, other than I met Rosalynn Carter when she was speaking on mental illness & promoting her book "Within Our Reach" at a small event at Columbia-Presb./Psych. Institute. She inscribed it (my copy, not all of them) "To Steve". Seriously, two incredibly good people with very strong opinions and the moral fiber to act upon them. I'm glad they led long lives. bloviatrix Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 One of my mom's college friends (who was married to her childhood best friend) served in the Carter administration as Undersecretary of Commerce. He would tell stories about razzing Jordanian officials since his first name was Jordan. Quote
