Why yes, yes it was. I hate-follow them on IG, and I recommend doing this, because they're even more insufferable than you think.

The IG is like a parody of itself. I half expect him to eventually reveal that AF was some Duchamp-esque art project all along. Except he’s not that clever.

I hope they pay you when they make A Total Shitshow Of Savings their new slogan.

I paid my first visit to The Tin Building yesterday, about a 2.5 mile round-trip, so a good exercise walk - though I sure wish our lower east side waterfront wasn't so fucking horrendous. I didn'

20 years ago I would walk from 6th Street down to the streets between Houston and Delancey for a really quiet night out. Nobody around. A few peaceful bars open.

We walked through last week. I'm not really sure who this place is for or why it exists. There was some beautiful January King cabbage on offer for $1.50/lb so that's something I guess.

I was hoping, but...that ship sailed. And Essex Market/Market Line, with Formaggio Essex, Pain d'AVignon, Ends Meats, et al. is just so much easier to get to and from.

On a Sunday afternoon, at least, it’s much more relaxing than Eataly, let alone Chelsea Markets. I saw some good things, nice-looking boudin noir for example, but as I wasn’t shopping (I was in Chinatown yesterday and my fridge is loaded) I didn’t look hard at the prices.

I ate a jambon beurre, which was nice but didn’t need the cheese.

Another visit. I found the rotisserie chickens. They’re now down to $15. What can I say? It’s a very good chicken.

There are still a number of clunky aspects to the shopping experience. Some are fixable, though I’m not sure anyone’s really patrolling that beat or is even paying attention. It sometimes feels like the whole thing was built out off the cuff, and nobody was there to actually troubleshoot it or to say “this checkout line isn’t in a good spot” or “really, guys, no one’s going to find the chickens over there.”

I mean, I hope it comes together because it’s something I think I would like and want to go to more? In addition to the chickens, it seemed prices had come down in general. There was a nice looking brisket that was a few bucks less per pound than the one I’d just bought at Ends. Prices on venison and rabbit were only marginally higher than I pay at Ottomanelli’s. Some good looking sweetbreads that tempted me for a moment.

But I’m burying the lead. Most importantly, our long city-wide nightmare is over:
