NBA 2022-2023

Two games in we have seen the Lakers dispatched by the Warriors and by the Clippers.  The Lakers are getting older and they don't have a reliable three-point shooter.  In fact, they suck from beyond the arc.  Changing coaches does not create three pointers.  So are they going to sign a shooter?  They don't seem to be in a hurry.  WTF?

That ought to make for some lousy ratings.

Watching the Celtics beat the Sixers I was struck by the way Jason Tatum seemed to be able to make the game come to him.

Right after I posted, I pulled up the NYT to read and spotted this.

So the Lakers beat the Grizzlies in game 1.  But so much seems to relate to injuries.  First, AD is hurt, then he's ok.  Then, Morant is injured and doesn't play the rest of the game.  Is the season too long?  Are the players not training properly?  Now, Giannis may be injured or compromised.

View from the West.  So the Lakers have split with the higher seeded Grizzlies.  The Clippers have split with the higher seeded Suns.  And the Warriors have dropped two to the higher seeded Kings.  The third games seem interesting.  Of course, Mr. Green will be missing his third game.

So if the Lakers can beat the Grizzlies and if the Kings finish off the Warriors, the Lakers will face the Kings in the next round.

Looming in the distance are the #1 seeded Nuggets who are toying with the #8 seeded Timberwolves.

Out West. At this point the Nuggets are 3-0 against the Timberwolves.  The Suns are up 3-1 against the Clippers who don't have Leonard (much less George).  The Lakers moved to 2-1 against the Grizzlies even though the injured Ja Morant scored 45!  What if he was 100%?  The Kings are up 2-1 against the Warriors who will get Green back.  Can the Warriors make this interesting?

Way out west, things are bleak for the Timberwolves and the Clippers.  Meanwhile, the Warriors evened their series with the Kings (Stephen A. for some reason thinks this will go 7 games).  The Lakers playing with an eggshell AD still managed with the help of Reaves, James and Russell to turn back the Grizzlies to take a 3-1 lead.  Assuming the Lakers can quickly dispatch with the Grizzlies and assuming Mr. Smith is right about the Kings-Warriors, this would give the Lakers a chance to regroup and plow forward.  We shall see.
