Went to a Mexican themed birthday potluck for a friend last night. I brought pot beans made with RG Lila's. I was worried because he had said they would be better used within 6 months, and I've had these for over a year. But they were some of the best I've had. Nice and creamy.

An almost ovo-lacto dinner:

Raw veg tacos (chiffonade cabbage; julienne carrot, daikon, turnip, broccoli stem, pickled red pepper) in corn tortillas, with fromage blanc, rouille, salsa verde, avocado, pickled onion, cilantro sprigs, and grated cotija. Frijoles refritos made from new RG snowcaps (the achiotina kept the meal from being vegetarian). Salad with creamy garlic dressing. Red Hook IPA.

Not at all authentic but delicious and filling. :)

Had to run out to the corner to get more stuff to deep fry.. Someone bought a caramel apple pie that cooked up well..

Looks good Daniel. Is the honey on the fried chicken a northern thing? I've never seen it on fried chicken down around these parts.

One of the people I was making Chicken for is my friend from South Carolina.. She was telling me that her favorite Chicken, in Brooklyn, was from Pies and Thighs and that she loves the hot sauce and honey they serve together.. So, the addition of honey was soley for her benefit.. Though, in the end, i really enjoyed adding the honey.. And the reason why I added two types of honey is because I am completely blind and first added the wrong honey because the jars are so similar..

And it turns out, deep fried candy bars are a Scottish thing.. As I was at the Bodega buying candy bars, I was telling the guy behind the counter, who happens to be a cook, about deep frying the candy bars.. The girl behind me buying cigarettes was like, that's what we do in Scotland... We deep fry everyhing there.. I asked her to come over but, i think I scared her off..

The oreos though are so good.. I think next time, we will have to make our own double stuff or triple stuff then batter, then fry... Seems like a healthy thing to do.

Having cooked the last 10 nights or so I took the easy route last night and picked up (coincidentally) the 9pc mixed original and spicy fam pack from Popeyes. Came with 4 biscuits and a large Cajun rice. It was pretty damn good esp for $13. Instead of honey we used chili and duck sc. I’m sure we would have much preferred yours though (sadly, we weren’t invited)

I’ve had the oreos before. They were 10x better than I imagined. Something unexplainably magical happens when the cookies melt into the cream. Yours look sooo good.

Bourdain did an episode in Scotland emphasizing their obsession with all that is deep fried. I had no idea how far they took it.

AND you didn't have to clean the stove!

I agree, Popeye's is pretty good for a quick fried-chicken fix.

Popeye's chicken is really good, and so are the red beans and rice.

Popeyes is certainly good but, this was the best chicken outside of Willy Mae's down in NO, I have been apart of.. Even Missie K this morning, as I was driving her to school mentioned the chicken... Out of nowhere, she was like, Daniel, that chicken last night, that chicken was soooo good.. She said, I wish I had some right now.

And a good job from Missie K, is all I am really looking for..

hey, Popeye's is the bomb for fast food chicken, but no doubt it doesn't stack up to homemade.
