Small farms: a blog from the heart

Recommended Posts

Well, I did it. I started last night and I'm trying to figure out Typepad, which is nowhere as easy as HTML, but I like the format just fine.

I'm still moving in, and things are still in boxes, but you are invited to see the beginnings of a blog (gadzooks, what a coagulated word) about the small farms and farmers that I have been photographing and getting to know for over five years now.

Smallfarms.typepad.com: don't be surprised if things move around. I have over a thousand photos of farms, farmers, and food from the farms to, um, focus on.

Consider this the soft opening. Please be kind about mistakes in formatting and even punctuation. Things that work in HTML (my second language) do not work in Rich Text, and never the twain shall meet.

Thank you for the encouragement, so very much.

That photo of the peaches from Frog Hollow is stunning!! I just wanted to reach into the screen and pick them.

Tana, congratulations! It's already beautiful, and I eagerly look forward to what is yet to come. Thanks for this labour of love.

Cheers,

Squeat

Thank you all, and PLEASE feel free to leave comments in the blog itself.

I'm going through 5000 photos and hope to get more loaded in today. Maybe a bit about the farmers market.

I have to say that the typepad interface is probably one of the easiest and most flexible of the blogging software out there. That is probably why so many people use it.

Lettuce praise Tana for a good job.

Aw. That's sweet.

I guess it's just that I'm using different browsers from one time to the next but some of the functionality is making me crazy. I'll get over it.

Meanwhile, let me just say that with one large exception  , the response has been overwhelmingly kind and enthusiastic.

And I've talked to four farmers now--they are all very excited. Now all I have to do is get out there and take pictures.

Coming up next: food porn (food on farms) with some recipes, if I can get them and get permission.

We all know people are slaves to food porn.

The 'blog looks very nice, tana. Well done.

I was impressed with the breadth of references (Cabrillo Farmers Market, Corralitos Market, purple carrots). Many stories in each of these, I'm sure.

very nice tana. a question about format: does typepad not have the feature by which you can break a longer article into a couple of pieces, showing only an excerpt on the front page? might make it easier to scan all the entries displayed on the front page that way.

If it does, I don't know how to do it yet. I'm still figuring it out. It is a great idea, and I'll see if I can make it work.

Thanks.

And thanks, Paul--we do live in a very rich place (not money, you know what I mean).

Yesterday at the market was amazing. Not only do I have my first three farms lined up to visit, but I have a farm in England to visit, as well.

FYI, the "big exception" I mentioned is no one here. This place has been great. I really don't think I'd have made the leap without your support, so thank you thank you thank you.
