indian restaurants in jersey pradesh

Recommended Posts

i hope to add an average of one entry per year in this thread going forward.

first up, i want to recommend kathiyawadi kitchen in sayreville. look, i have a terrible sense of new jersey geography. i only recently learned that new brunswick is not in southern new jersey and that half the goddamned state is below it. so maybe some of you who live in new jersey are in fact relatively close to sayreville. i can say that if you are, kathiyawadi kitchen is very much worth a stop. they specialize in the food of kathiyawar, one of the major regions of gujarat. the correct move is to get the kathiyawadi thali; though if there are two of you (as there were of us), one should get the gujarati thali so you can compare the different dishes. the incorrect move is to get the punjabi thali (that's only there on the chance that steve r. stops by). oh yes, it's entirely vegetarian.

fuller write-up with pictures on the blog.

So, almost 2 years ago this pretty bad local place in my neighborhood was taken over by a new chef/owner with serious credentials (Tulsi, Brick Lane, Tamarind...).  He's gradually changed the menu to more reflect his Goa upbringing.  We've been going pretty regularly and it's been very helpful in weaning me off my Punjabi fixation.  Just thought you'd like to know.  https://indiantableny.com/menu#main-menu

looks good. but what does this have to do with new jersey?

Absolutely nothing.  When my name is mentioned, I get full permission to respond even more tangentially than usual.

We are about 10 minutes south of Sayreville. I’d love to try Kathiyawadi. But, sadly, they don’t have outdoor tables.
