Katz's

Recommended Posts

It tastes just as bad as it always did. The only difference is that we now realize how bad it is because we know it is made off-site. Before this, we didn't know because we didn't know it was made in Albany. In fact, we never really thought about whether it was made in Albany (tastes bad) or in the basement (tastes good). It was like Schrodinger's pastrami. We opened the box and the pastrami is dead.

One issue is that we're now no longer discussing "Katz's pastrami" but "Katz's pastrami as made by Old World Provisions" or, even worse, "Old World Provision's pastrami that they sell to better delis everywhere". This makes Katz's only significant product much less compelling, especially if it's the latter.

It tastes worse now you know they don't make it on the premises? Don't talk bollocks.

The point isn't taste here - it tastes exactly the same as it always tasted. Benton's ham tastes great at Ssam Bar and it's made in Tennessee.

I've always known it wasn't made in house (because, like, I know how to do simple math and figure how much meat they sell and how much affinagified cheese Murray's sells).

Still tastes like crap even though it's made by the experts upstate.

Are you willing to adjust for personal taste here, given that most people who have tried it like it?

Then why is Katz's pastrami now "less compelling"?

Of course, but what kind of argument is that?

you have to remember that orik hates jews.

The banks and the media should be sufficient.

At least the wild bears ate all the Indians, so we don't need to worry about them getting into the smoked-like meat-like product business.

Thinking about making a smoked corned beef for the Super Bowl. Wet brined, rinsed, dry rubbed, smoked then steamed. None of it done in my basement.
