The farmers market thread

Recommended Posts

Interestingly, my choice at the Greenmarket this morning was between goat testicles and shad roe.

I chose the roe.

Don't think there ever was a song about goat testicles.

By the way, the close-up of the kid with with blonde hair is me. This was right after I recorded "That's Amore."

Sinatra was nice but wouldn't hang out with us - this was the third take.

Lost Bread Company make these pretzel shortbread "cookies."

They are fucking delicious.

Pretzel Shortbread

Buttery, salty, sweet-savory, addictive & pretzelly AF. (Pack of 8)

Organic bread flour, breadcrumbs, butter, sugar, canola oil, salt.

Are they reading our minds, or our forums?

Not true. I don't go to any markets in the United States. The stuff is overpriced, ugly and terrible. It's not edible.

But I do go to markets in the rest of the world.

A friend of mine sent this picture this morning, as she's foraging in the woods. Sure look like ramps.

But - she's in Austria, and they call them Bärlauch.

Frequently served as garnish in France in the spring.   Exactly the name suggested by your friend, ail d'ours, bear's garlic.    Have never had confirmation that it is indeed ramps, but sure a kissing cousin.

Different allium, but similar enough. Japan also has something like it.

Right.

I think of the three ramps have the best developed bulbs.

Union Square greenmarket today was, for all intents and purposes, deserted.

And there was some city health dept. person there - no samples are allowed, at least presently (or when that person is there?)
